The Museums, Galleries and Collections Institute (MGCI) University of St Andrews team from the EU-LAC-MUSEUMS project has been celebrating International Museum Day with an exhibition on worldwide community museums, a film screening and mask making workshop for children, all held in the Byre Theatre. We’ll have an evening of talks in the autumn, date to be confirmed soon.
EU-LAC-MUSEUMS is an international consortium research and innovation project funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 programme, under Grant Agreement Number 693669. It seeks to carry out research into small and medium-sized museums in remote settings in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean (http://www.eulacmuseums.net)
While the MGCI team have collaborated with all project partners from Peru, Chile, Costa Rica, the Anglophone Caribbean, Portugal, Spain and France, they have worked most closely with the National Museum of Costa Rica and its network of Museos Comunitarios on the theme of museum education for social inclusion and cohesion. One of the most significant aspects of this partnership has been the bi-regional youth exchange between Scotland, Costa Rica and Portugal under the theme of “Our Vision for Change”.
The Byre exhibition in June showcased examples of community museums from all partner countries, to celebrate the achievements of the young people and their communities engaged in the bi-regional exchange, and to give all age groups in the St Andrews community, town and gown, a taster of our research. We very much hope that you have enjoyed the events so far and will join us for our evening of talks in the autumn.
